The Cayuga Trails Club built and maintains 100 miles of trails, including building and repairing trail structures such as puncheons (ground-level boardwalks), bridges, lean-to’s and privies. During this hands-on workshop, intended for beginner carpenters, participants will learn and experience how to use the tools and materials needed to build these structures. Lumber for puncheon stringers, decking and supports will be measured, marked and cut with circular saws; use of different types of fasteners will be discussed and holes for these will be marked and drilled; use of drill drivers, impact drivers and other tools for drilling and fastener-installation will be taught, and these tools will be used to construct two sections of puncheons.
Requirements for participation: membership in the Cayuga Trails Club and a commitment to participate in future CTC trail-building events.
