Hike Details:
The Roy H. Park Preserve is in the headwaters of Six Mile Creek. The stream begins in a wetland that is occupied by beavers who have constructed an extensive series of dams and which can be viewed from the boardwalk in the northern section of the Preserve. In the southern section, trails lead through meadows and a beautiful plantation of 1,000 spruces and red pines, supplemented by self-seeding white pines, and and on to native forest alongside Six Mile Creek.
We meet at 10am at the Roy H. Park Preserve North parking area on Irish Settlement Road in Dryden. After an exploration along the short trail and boardwalk, we return to the parking area and car-pool down to the South parking area for the rest of our hike in the southern section of the Preserve. (Note: there are no trails connecting the two sections of the Preserve.) In the southern section, we will hike about 3 miles along the easy, beautiful trails.
Dress in layers appropriate for the weather, wear sturdy boots, and bring water and a snack.
Email the hike leader if you have any questions, and check the website the day of the hike for any changes or cancellations.
