Brief Hike Description
This is an eight mile out-and-back hike in Morgan Hill State Forest, in rural Onondaga County.
This is a new route on the Onondaga Trail that our club has not explored in recent years.
Carpool Meetup Time: 9:00 am. Trailhead Meetup Time: 10:00 am.
We will carpool or caravan from Eastern Mountain Sports, 722 South Meadow Street, Ithaca. Note there is a one hour drive to the trailhead from Ithaca.
Wear sturdy hiking boots and insect repellant if you use it. Bring a snack or lunch as we will stop briefly at our turnaround point for lunch.
This is tick season. Recommendations include: light colored long pants and shirt, gaiters, and a thorough inspection/shower after the hike to identify tics.
There are several trailheads on Shackham Road. We meet at the Y1 trailhead on Morgan Hill Road.
Contact the hike leader at the email above on any questions.
Check this space the morning of the hike for any changes or a cancellation.
Detailed Hike Description
This is an out-and-back hike which starts and ends on Shackham Road in the Town of Fabius and circumnavigates Morgan Hill. There are no broad overlooks of the landscape but we will traverse some nice, shady, mostly hardwood glens on the Onondaga Trail/Finger Lakes Trail/North Country Trail system. The hike route features quiet forest with some older trees.
