Hike Details:
Margaret’s Woods was given to the Finger Lakes Land Trust in 2022 by the late Margaret Bald, whose family owned the land and the Stonehouse since 1950. The 140-acre property is adjacent to Robert H. Treman State Park, and – as Margaret Bald wanted – will be transferred to the New York State Office of Parks Recreation & Historic Preservation as an addition to Robert H. Treman State Park.
Margaret’s Woods features a mix of fields and forest which contain many high-quality sugar maples and hickories. 1.4 miles of trail connect the Finger Lakes Trail and the Civilian Conservation Trail in Robert H. Treman State Park. On this hike, we explore these new trails and connect to established trails in the State Park. Along the way, we’ll visit the Lucifer Falls Overlook.
The trail may be muddy, icy and/or snowy depending on the weather. Wear sturdy, waterproof boots, dress in layers, and bring footwear traction devices (Microspikes, Yaktraks, Stabilicers, etc) to the trailhead. (If we get enough snow for snowshoes, we’ll send an email.) Hiking poles will be very useful on the route. Bring snacks and water.
Email the hike leader if you have questions!
