Detailed Hike Description

Fall Creek arises from headwaters to the east and north of Ithaca, eventually forming a spectacular waterfall from a hanging valley high above the Cayuga Lake Basin.  On this hike, we start where Fall Creek enters Cayuga Lake at Stewart Park, head east through Renwick Wild Woods, and along paths to the base of Ithaca Falls.  From there we will take roads and scrambling shortcuts up to the top of the Falls at Stewart Ave bridge.  From there we follow the Cayuga Trail up to Beebe Lake, admiring the many waterfalls and spectacular gorge along the way.  After circumnavigating Beebe Lake, we return to Cayuga Lake via a series of roads and trails, perhaps with a sidetrip on the Risley Trail.

Wear warm layered clothing, bring traction footwear if conditions warrant, and carry lunch/snacks and water.

This hike will be a workout – 800 ft ascent, 6 miles.  However, we will almost always be on well-maintained trails or roads.
