Brief Outing Details

This is an easy two-hour kayak paddle on the Owasco Lake Inlet. Note there is a 45 minute drive to the put-in, at the Owasco Lake fishing access.

Sandra Greeene will lead this easy kayaking outing to Owasco Inlet.

Owasco Inlet is one of the most popular and easiest places to paddle in the area.  It is a fairly narrow waterway with very little current, sheltered from the wind by a canopy of trees arching over the water.  If the leaves have begun to turn colors, it is especially beautiful place to be on the water. There are a number of small waterways  and wetlands to explore that branch from the main channel that are especially inviting for birdwatchers. 

Directions:  Drive to Moravia, then take route 38 north in Moravia for 4 miles, turning right onto Fire Lane 1  after which you quickly make a hairpin right turn going downhill past a number of cottages to stay on Fire Lane 1.  Go straight, passing a road to the marina on the left.  Continue onto the dirt road that dead ends at the Owasco inlet fishing access parking lot.

This location has no kayak rentals. If you need a boat, be sure to contact someone you know who has a boat, paddle and pfd that you can borrow.  Contact Sandra if you need help with this.

Dress for the weather, bring water and water shoes, sneakers or sandals that you don’t mind getting wet. It is wise to bring a second pair of dry shoes or boots for the ride home.
