Quick Hike Details

Note we changed this weeks hike destination as follows:

This is a loop hike to Jones Hill on the Onondaga Trail, consisting of 6.4 miles, with an ascent of 1075 feet rated strenuous.

This hike requires an hour drive to Tully, NY one way. Once we arrive, there is a short car shuttle.

We will hike the Onondaga Trail to the Jones Hill hang glider jump off point. There is a nice overlook of the landscape to the west at this point, assuming clear skies.

Dress for the weather, wear sturdy waterproof hiking boots, and bring water.

To discourage ticks, wear light-colored long pants, long sleeve shirt, and bring insecticide or an organic repellant if you use it. Gaitors recommended. Post-hike shower recommended to identify ticks.

Using gps, set your unit for 7794 Shackham Road, Tully, NY. This is not the exact location of the trailhead but will get you close. Look for cars and hikers gathering.

If you will have trouble navigating to the trailhead, email the hike leader at the address above.

Check this space the day of the hike for any changes or cancellations.

Detailed Hike Description

This hike takes us on the Onondaga Trail, which is not often included in our hike roster due to the distance from home. However the nice overlook from the hang glider jump off point is well worth the drive. The hike consists of an ascent of 1075 feet to Jones Hill, and an equally steep descent, although we don’t do all of it at once. If you struggle with uphill pitches, you might want to join us another time.

We start from the south trailhead on Shackham Road and finish at the north trailhead. There is a short car shuttle between the two. We will stop briefly at Jones Hill for lunch. Bring a snack or sandwich.

To discourage ticks, wear light-colored long pants, long sleeve shirt, and bring insecticide or an organic repellant if you use it. Gaitors recommended. Post-hike shower recommended to identify ticks.
