Detailed Hike Description
In 2020, during a year of COVID and isolation, David Priester built a
beautiful bridge in the middle of nowhere that is a worthy destination
to have a quick lunch on an out-and-back hike of the Abbott Loop – eastern section.
We start at the white blazed crossing of the Finger Lakes Trail on Michigan Hollow Road. The first mile is a 480 foot climb to Hill Road. Another mile takes us downhill and to Curtis Road passing the intersection with the orange blazed Abbott Loop, then downhill to David’s Bridge. On the return, there are similar ups and downs. The last mile is downhill.
This hike is an out-and-back for a total of 4.2 miles, and has steep uphill and
downhill pitches. If you struggle on steep ups, you might want to join us on another hike.
Dress in layers for the weather, bring sturdy waterproof hiking boots, water, and lunch. Depending on conditions, microspikes or snowshoes may be the gear for the day.
If the group chooses we will have lunch at the bridge.
