Detailed Hike Description
This week’s destination is a section of Danby State Forest. This is an “out and back” hike starting and ending at the South Danby Road trailhead of the Finger Lakes Trail.
We’ll hike west as far for a couple miles, then retrace our steps and return to the cars. A feature of this hike is David’s Bridge, near Curtis Road. There is a story to be told there.
Directions from Ithaca: take Route 96B south through the hamlet of Danby. Continue traveling south until you reach South Danby Road, about 8.2 miles from downtown Ithaca. Turn right on South Danby Road and travel 1.5 miles until you reach the trailhead parking on the right side of the road.
Bring plenty of water, sturdy waterproof hiking boots or shoes, and dress for the weather.
