Come enjoy a beautiful, energetic hike on Christmas Day!

We’ll meet at the main entrance parking lot for Buttermilk Falls State Park on Rte. 13, Ithaca. The hike will go up the Rim Trail to the Bear Trail, and out to Lake Treman.  Depending on group preferences, we may continue on the southwest side of Lake Treman to where the trail is closed at the northeast end.  Our return route will include the Bear Trail, but then a combination of the Rim Trail and service road as we return to admire Buttermilk Falls before heading off for the rest of our day.

Buttermilk Falls State Park and Treman State Park were gifts to the people of New York from the Treman family nearly 100 years ago. They were orignially designated, “Reservations,” as there were no state parks at that time in New York. Allan Treman was a prominent banker, miller, and philanthropist, among other roles, in Tompkins County.

Wear sturdy waterproof hiking boots and footwear traction devices (Microspikes, StabilIcers, etc).  Dress for the weather in layered warm clothing, and bring water and a snack.
