Hike Details:

This hike follows the Finger Lakes Trail along the Cayuta Lake Outlet (Cayuta Creek), beginning and ending at the Van Lone Loop trail-head on Gulf Road. There are two out-and-back elements. We first hike westward through the wetlands that drain to the creek, on to the Schuyler County Veterans Memorial Park.  After hiking back to the parking area, we head downstream along the beautiful, narrow creek with high valley walls.  Those choosing the shorter distance can end their hike after completion of the westward section (about 4 miles).  The eastern out-and-back adds is another 2.2 miles.

Dress in layers for the weather, bring at least a liter of water and a snack/lunch, and wear sturdy, waterproof hiking boots.

The Gulf Road trail-head is about a 35 minute drive from Ithaca.

Check the website the day of the hike for any changes or cancellations.
