Detailed Hike Description

This week’s hike takes us to Connecticut Hill to experience the Bob Cameron Loop, a 2.6 mile loop trail that starts and ends at Tompkins County’s highest point, at just under 2,100 feet.

The BCL, a spur trail of the Finger Lakes Trail System, is a beautiful section, often used by cross-country skiers. The area is isolated and far from town, so the only sounds you are likely to hear on this hike are the sounds of your footfalls, the laughter of your fellow hikers, and the sound of chicadees or woodpeckers who are overwintering on the hill this season.

Bring water and wear sturdy waterproof hiking shoes or boots.

Directions to the trail head, different from the location description but gets you the same place:

From Ithaca take Route 13 South. Where the highway splits, continue in the right lane on Route 13. Turn right on Millard Hill Rd.

Start counting mileage when you turn on to Millard Hill Road.  Go 4 miles to the intersection with Trumbulls Corners Road.  Cross Trumbulls Corners Road and go another .1 miles.  Turn first left on Connecticut Hill road.  At 5.4 miles keep right at the Boylan Hill road corner.  Keep right again at the intersection at 6.4 miles (Other road not plowed anyway).  At 7.0 miles Tower Road turns right, go straight on the transmitter site access road.  The trail head parking is at the cluster of radio transmitter buildings

For those unsure of navigation, email or call the hike leader at the address above.  The hile leader will make sure you get there.  Road signage on Connecticut Hill is unpredictable.
