Brief Hike Details

This is is an 8 mile loop hike rated strenuous due to length. We will stop briefly for lunch at about the halfway point.

We begin and end our hike at the Bear Swamp State Forest south trailhead on Bear Swamp Road.

Bear Swamp is located in the Town of Sempronius, about an hour’s drive from Ithaca. For those who wish to caravan or carpool, we will meet at the EMS parking lot in Ithaca at 9:00 am.

Dress in layers, wear sturdy, waterproof hiking boots, bring water, a sandwich or snack for lunch, and insecticide or organic bug repellant if you use it.

Detailed Hike Description

There are over 14 miles of trail in Bear Swamp, known for its cross country ski trails, but we will experience the trails by hiking today. We’ll hike a large loop around the perimeter of the forest, using a combination of the yellow, blue and red trails.

Dress in layers appropriate for the weather, wear sturdy, waterproof hiking boots, bring water, a sandwich or snack for lunch, and insecticide if you use it.
