Hike Details:
Embark on an adventure with Gary Mallow for a 6.3-mile trek rated as moderate, meandering through the serene hardwoods and pines of Newfield State Forest.
This journey features a Newfield hike led by a Newfield resident. We have a total ascent of 860 feet, with mostly gentle inclines, punctuated by two brief, steep sections leading to a flat ridge with elevation of 2,000 feet.
We aim for Irish Hill Road, near Greensprings Natural Cemetery, which signifies our midpoint.
Remember to bring water, sturdy hiking boots or shoes, and a packed lunch. We’ll pause briefly to savor the beauty of our surroundings and refuel.
Note that Newfield State Forest lacks signage, a kiosk, or trail blazes. Drive attentively. Our meetup is approximately 6 miles south of Newfield, at 3014 Elmira Road (Route 13). It is an unmarked gravel parking area on the east side of Route 13. If you reach Jimmy Wolfe’s Auto Shop across the road, you have just passed the meetup.
For inquiries, don’t hesitate to contact the hike leader via email.
