Caroline-Mallow Marsh to Summerland Farm and beyond, #100

Tuesday 09/09/2025 4:00 pm

Hike rating:

Length - 4 miles miles

Pace - Slow

Terrain - Difficult

Overall - Strenuous

Event/Trailhead location:

When heading east from Ithaca on NY-79/Slaterville Rd, the  bus/snowplow turnaround is on the left side of the road.  It used to be marked “Snowplow Turnaround” and is now marked “Bus Turnaround”. You can park in the area at the West end of the bus turnaround where the signs say “No parking Nov to Apr”.  The space is limited, so please park close to other cars.  If that area is full, park on the shoulder of the road on the south side of Route 79, just beyond the bus turnaround. Be sure your wheels are entirely on the grass and not even touching the pavement on the shoulder. Do not park in the paved bus turnaround area on either side of 79 where the signs say “No parking”. If you drive across a bridge and enter Tioga County you have gone too far! The link for the trailhead is for the Tarr-Young Preserve (click for map).  This is the best link to use to get to the parking area but beware that the parking area is on the other side of the road.
