Detailed Hike Description

One of the most beautiful areas to hike in Ithaca is along Fall Creek.  This week we will combine sections of the Cayuga and Monkey Run Trails to follow along the north side of Fall Creek as it flows under the Route 13 Bridge and wends its way west to the Stevenson Suspension Bridge.  Our explorations will take us through two Cornell Natural Areas, through upland forests, Red Pine plantations, along the creek bank, and across some small tributaries.  Along the way we will explore the terrain created by an inland sea, eroding mountains, colliding continents, Ice Age glaciers, and moving water.

This is a one-way hike.  We are meeting at 9:30 at the hike terminus (Flat Rock) and will then shuttle everyone to the hike start-point at the Rt 13 Bridge over Fall Creek.

Hiking poles are strongly recommended.  There are two short steep ravine crossings, and two hill sections with stairs.

Bring water, insect repellent if you use, and sturdy hiking boots.

This is tick season. Wear light colored long pants, long sleeved shirt, gaiters if you have them or tuck your pants legs into your socks. Check for ticks after the hike.
