Tonight our destination is the Finger Lakes Trail on Connecticut Hill in the Town of Newfield. This is an out-and-back hike beginning at the Ridge Rd. trail-head. We will hike for about 90 minutes, stop, and retrace our steps. Connecticut Hill has abundant bird life and wildflowers, and we are likely to see, or hear, both.

The Connecticut Hill Wildlife Managment Area is owned by the people of New York and managed by the Department of Environmental Conservation. At 25,000 acres, it is one of the largest contiguous natural areas within easy driving distance from Ithaca.
Bring at least a liter of water, wear sturdy hiking boots or shoes and insecticide if you use it to ward off ticks. We will be leaving the woods around dusk, so bring either a headlamp or a flashlight.
The Ridge Rd. trail-head is about a 20 minute drive from Ithaca. For those unsure of navigation to the trail-head, email Gary. As a last resort, Gary will stop at EMS promptly at 4:15 p.m. to guide you.

This hike will qualify for the Hike 100 Challenge with the North Country Trail Association. Mileage will be calculated at the hike.
