This is an easy, mostly downhill hike of about 4.5 miles. The Arnot Teaching and Research Forest is located in the hilly, forested area of Van Etten and Newfield, New York. Cornell University took ownership of the area in 1927 and has since expanded the forest to include over 4000 acres of upland hardwood forest, hemlock groves, and grassland. The resources are actively managed for timber production and maple products. Over 135 species of birds have been identified in the forest.

We will hike on the dirt roads that wind through the forest. Plan to meet at 9 am at the South Gate off Banfield Road where we will leave most cars. We will then shuttle a few cars to the North Gate on Irish Hill Road near Greensprings, and then hike back down to the cars.
